The City of Jakarta is considered as one of the most vulnerable cities to climate-related disasters, including flooding and sea-level rise. Additionally Jakarta struggles with problems of urban poverty, high unemployment and infrastructural problems in particular in the transport and waste sectors. As part of an enormous flood-mitigation project many riverbank settlers got evicted and forcibly resettled through the government. The results of the forced resettlement are that people are often left without means of achieving their livelihood and socially and economically more vulnerable than before. Against this background, the study discusses the problems and challenges people have to face after getting evicted. The research objectives are to analyse the vulnerability and the coping and adaptive strategies of affected people at risk.
